Geocaching in VirginiaNovice Program
Saturday, October 16, 2010
Alexandria, VA
9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
$10 members, $15 non-members
Level: All. No previous experience necessary.

Have you ever wanted to go geocaching? Do you even know what geocaching is? Geocaching is like treasure hunting with a GPS (Global Positioning System). On this trip, you will learn the basics of using a GPS. Using a GPS, we go to specific coordinates. At these coordinates, sometimes there is a question that needs to be answered that can only be answered by visiting that place, sometimes there is a container to find, and sometimes that container is really tiny, making one really search for it. Geocaching combines the fun of walking and exploring new places with the challenge of looking for something. It ranges in difficulty from very easy to extremely challenging.

For this trip, we will be doing caches in Huntley Meadows Park in Virginia. If you have a GPS, please bring it; however, you do not need a GPS to do this event.

The Bull Run Shooting Center
Centreville, VA
3:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Level: All levels welcome.

Target archery is a sport that can be played almost anywhere, by anyone. We'll spend an afternoon inside the Bull Run Shooting Center at their Archery facility and learn the skills of archery. Some strength is needed, but the shooting skill is more important than the power of the bow. No prior experience is necessary, and no special clothing is required. If you have your own equipment, feel free to bring it. We will be indoors. The program is run by The Archery Program (http://www.thearcheryprogram.net/). The Archery Program is run by Ruth Rowe, who was a member of the 1984 Olympic team.
