Hiking
and Backpacking
WWO offers many levels of hiking: from half-day
beginner hikes to overnight backpacking trips. Hiking and backpacking
trips are an easy and rewarding way to experience the outdoors. Small
groups of women explore trails in regional, state, and national parks
under the direction of WWO hiking leaders. |
Watersports
Exploring the waterways in the Mid-Atlantic is an exciting and wonderful
adventure. WWO provides canoeing, whitewater kayaking, and sea kayaking
trips on local rivers such as the Potomac and Youghigheny. Trips are
designed for both the beginner and advanced watersports women. In
addition, basic instruction is also available. |

Rockclimbing and Caving
Rockclimbing and caving inherently build bonds of trust and provides opportunities
for personal growth. Rockclimbing places a premium on
good listening skills, focus, and concentration. Caving offers an excellent opportunity to discover a whole new environment underground. It is one of the few indoor outdoor activities. Our trips provide instruction on body positioning, use of all equipment, and, most importantly, how to have a safe
and fun experience on the rocks and in the cave. Get in on the fun
and excitement with WWO's safe and scenic introduction to rockclimbing and caving.

Skiing
WWO offers cross-country and downhill skiing. WWO's skiing program offers
weekend trips to local snow areas during January and February. Instruction is provided at all levels, and focuses on introducing
cross-country skiing to beginners and improving upon existing skills
of skiers of other levels. Although influenced highly by the willingness
of Mother Nature to drop snow, this is a program worth checking out. |

Leadership Training
Interested in leading an outdoor trip? WWO offers a complete leadership
training program for all of its outdoor programs. This is a step by
step program where prospective leaders learn the necessary skills
to plan, implement, and lead outdoor trips through workshops and trip
participation. Click on the Leadership button to learn more about the leadership program. |
Bicycling
Bicycling is an excellent way to tour the
beautiful area surrounding Washington, DC. WWO offers road and off
road trips of varying distances for the beginners and advanced rider.
Workshops on bicycle maintenance are offered once a year to
teach riders how to perform minor repairs. |
|
Special Events
WWO also participates in and sponsors other events. Examples include social events, horseback riding, fly fishing, nature retreats, and social action events. |
