The 2017 Perseid meteor shower will peak on the night of Aug 12 and early morning hours of Aug 13, and Big Meadows in Shenandoah National Park is the place to be for this spectacular star gazing event. The Park has several special activities planned at Byrd Visitor Center and the Big Meadows Area where we have reserved campsites at Big Meadows Campground.
We will meet up on Saturday to set up our campsite, take in the special activities, and enjoy a late evening meal before the show begins. After a leisurely breakfast on Sunday, we will break camp, enjoy a short hike before heading home.
WWO has a limited amount of camping equipment to lend as a member benefit. Campground rules restrict number of tents per site so tent sharing among participants could be necessary.
This trip is Saturday through Sunday. WWO registration fee does not include any meals nor entry to Shenandoah National Park. Gear sharing, carpooling, meal planning, and all other trip details will be
worked out by email the week before the trip.
Registration Deadline: Wednesday, August 2, 2017
