Play hooky and escape from the city for a weekend of backpacking. On Friday, we start at Bear Rocks, wander the open balds of the northern region of Dolly Sods to the edge of the Allegheny plateau for fantastic views of the Canaan Valley below. We spend Saturday exploring the Central region of the wilderness: vistas, beaver dams, waterfalls and moss-covered streams. On Sunday we will break camp and hike out along the Blackbird Knob trail back to our cars.
With a maximum elevation gain/loss of 400 feet and less than 8 miles distance per day, this trip is perfect for advanced beginners and above.
WWO has a limited amount of equipment to lend. Group equipment such as cooking gear will be shared among participants so don’t let a lack of equipment prevent you from joining this trip. Gear sharing, meal planning, carpooling and all other details will be worked out by email the week before the trip.
Registration Deadline: Wednesday, May 10, 2017
