Join us on this fairly challenging ascent which combines Virginia’s best waterfall with the Appalachian Trail and a stunning 360-degree panorama view atop Spy Rock. Said to be the tallest cascade east of the Mississippi, Crabtree Falls consists of five major cascades and a large number of smaller ones, all together totaling a vertical drop of more than 1,000 feet. Spy Rock is an incredible rock dome on the east side of Maintop Mountain with breathtaking views of the entire Religious Range, Mt. Pleasant, Three Ridges, St. Mary’s Wilderness area, and the eastern foothills. From Crabtree Falls, we will follow the Appalachian Trail to some nice campsites at the base of the summit in time for a spectacular sunset. We are planning an out and back trip. The elevation change on the Crabtree Falls Trail and Appalachian Trail are steady climbs.
Gear sharing, meal planning, carpooling and all other details will be worked out by email the week before the trip. WWO has a limited amount of
equipment to lend as a member benefit.
Your furry friend is invited. The Spy Rock scramble may prove challenging for your furry friend.
This trip is Saturday to Sunday.
