Join us on this early season beginners backpacking trip in nearby Prince William Forest Park. This is a great trip for those who are new to backpacking, want to try out new gear or brush up on backpacking skills to prepare for the 2017 season! This wilderness area, although close to the DC metro area is reputed to be less popular and crowded than others and offers 37 miles of hiking trails in the Park.
It is a 2 mile loop to one of the backcountry camp sites which accommodate up to 4 tents per site, so participants could share tents. We also share group equipment, such as backpack stoves and cooking gear, so don’t let a lack of equipment prevent you from coming as WWO also has a limited amount of backpack gear to lend as a member benefit.
After setting up our campsite, we will decide which trails to hike, which range from 1 mile to over 10 miles. On Sunday, after we break camp, we have an option to take in another hike and then meet up for a meal on our way
Please plan to share the cost of driving and entry to the National Forest. Gear sharing, meal planning, carpooling and all other details will be worked out by email in the week before the trip. This trip is a weekend, Saturday through Sunday.
Registration Deadline: Wednesday, March 8, 2017
