Bike and Flight Bike Ride
Sunday, March 31, 2019
10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
$7 members, $10 non-members
Level: 20.0 miles
On this ride, suitable for in-shape beginners and above, we’ll explore some of the history of Fairfax County starting at Cabell’s Mill in Chantilly. The Mill was built in the mid 1700’s and operated as a mill until 1916. From the Mill we will ride to Sully Historic Site, also built in the 1700’s. Five original buildings remain on the site. We’ll walk around to see some of the buildings but not take a formal tour. We will then travel to more modern times with a visit to the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center which is part of the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum. We will spend a little time in the museum (free) which has thousands of artifacts (including the Space Shuttle Discovery), before heading back to Cabell’s Mill.
The route will primarily be on sidepaths (sidewalks that are paved and wider than normal sidewalks) and residential streets. The “driveway” to Sully is a 2 lane road but the road only goes to Sully. The entrance way to the Udvar-Hazy Center is a wide road with little
traffic (only goes to the museum). Bring a good lock to lock up your bike at Sully and the Udvar-Hazy Center. There are bike racks at the Udvar-Hazy Center but none at Sully.
Registration Deadline: Friday, March 29, 2019
