RIVER KAYAKING

Beginner River KayakingNovice Program

Level: All. No previous experience necessary.

A great opportunity to learn about paddling whitewater/river kayaks on a mild and pretty section of the Potomac River. In riffles and slow water you will learn about getting in and out of the boat and going forward, reverse, and sideways. No rolling. No experience needed. Bring water, lunch and snacks.

All paddling events include a review of strokes, water safety, and boat handling. All equipment (boats, PFDs, paddles) is provided. We encourage you to e-mail or call if you have any questions about your ability to participate. If you have your own boat, please call or e-mail to discuss its suitability for this trip.

Intermediate River Kayaking

Level: Prior paddling experience required.

Designed for individuals who have completed the beginner class or have prior experience paddling a kayak. The intermediate lesson is on moving water (Class I-II). It provides the opportunity to practice paddling skills and learn river rescue techniques. We use whitewater style sit-on-top kayaks so you don't need to know how to roll. A major portion of class time is devoted to practice on whitewater. Bring water, lunch and snacks.

All paddling events include a review of strokes, water safety, and boat handling. All equipment (boats, PFDs, paddles) is provided. Paddle to Lunch

Level: Suitable for in-shape beginners and experienced paddlers.

Join us at a quiet park on the Potomac River where we will go over paddling strokes and boat handling skills, both on land and while paddling in the calm bay and marshes. We'll paddle ourselves to lunch at a seafood restaurant! Learn about paddling, enjoy a day on the water, and tell your friends you kayaked to lunch. Bring water, a snack, and money for lunch at the restaurant.

Shenandoah Cruise Sea Kayaking Trip

Bring Your Own Boat Sea Kayaking Trip

Level: This is a trip for those who have their own recreational or sea kayaks.

This is a trip for those who have their own recreational or sea kayaks. We'll choose the location a week or two prior to the trip depending on water levels in our region. Plan on driving approximately 1 to 1 1/2 hours to the put-in. Wherever we paddle, it will be on lovely waters with opportunities for cooling off in the water, bird-watching, and enjoying great company. Bring water, lunch and a snack.

You must wear a PFD for this trip. Let us know if you need to borrow one.

Potomac Paddle Sea Kayaking Trip

Check out a pretty and quiet section of the Potomac as we follow the current downstream. Paddling is required, but it's a very scenic trip. Islands, birds, and pretty shoreline make for a great paddling location. Bring lunch, water and snacks.

Susquehanna Sea Kayaking Trip

Paddle along a quiet creek off the Choptank River on the Eastern Shore. Enjoy a peaceful day and beautiful scenery. Often, eagles and osprey join us here as we meander the back waters.
